Video of a cat barking like a dog

I was watching a programme on television last night which was reviewing it’s top 20 list of animal videos.  I thought that this one was quite funny.  I wish I had a cat like this: [read] Keywords: facebook twitter

People like Social Media because people are social – People are social by nature
Wed, Feb 8th 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
When calling to talk to people about social business,  I very quickly draw their attention to one thing – People are social by nature Stop and think about this for a moment.  What do people like to talk about the most? Themselves, perhaps?  Not only that but we find that people like to hang out in communities with like minded people.  Have you ever considered how to leverage this sort of thing in a business context? If you look at social media such as LinkedIn and Facebook, we see peop [read] Keywords: facebook linkedin twitter

Taking care with Social Media – remember your reputation is on the line
Tue, Feb 7th 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
Today, I was doing some research online with twitter.  I came across a tweet which caught my eye when I was looking through a few things on twitter. Over the past few months I have been talking to a number of people in business, who have had issues with fraudulent staff.  The problem has been the length of time that it has taken management to identify that there is an issue to the time it has taken to take action.  Therefore, this tweet caught my interest. I decided to click on the URL or lin [read] Keywords: facebook security twitter

Transform or go out of business – it isn’t an option
Mon, Feb 6th 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
Recently, one of New Zealand largest music festivals, The Big Day Out, announced that this year would be the last.  It was not longer a profitable event and therefore it had run its course and it was time for the organizers to move onto something else.  I don’t think that this will be the last of these events which will run themselves out of business. We need to ask the question, why?  Why do these mega events which attract crowds of thousands, prove to be no longer financially viable [read] Keywords: facebook twitter

Why I.T. should not be in control of your business
Wed, Feb 1st 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
Recently, I have been involved in some interesting conversations whereby IT people are enforcing restrictions onto users without fully thinking through the consequences for the rest of the business.  What interests me more is that they are able to connivence the management of the business that it is the best way to work.  Care needs to be taken to ensure that a few dollars saved in one place, doesn’t lead to significant costs in the rest of the business. One of the things that I lik [read] Keywords: ibm lotus lotusphere notes community facebook iphone twitter

Sandy Carter (IBM) Interview on Social Business – Le Web 2011 #SMCH7
Tue, Jan 31st 2012 3:03a   Vaughan Rivett
I just came across this video of an interview with Sandy Carter being conducted by Chris Heuer.  This is a great video which talks about company culture and the need to “Get Bold” to overcome obstacles to Social Business.  Sandy has a way of making sense when applying social strategies to business. The question needs to be asked, how do you protect your brand from the savage world of social media?
Mon, Jan 30th 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but the truth of the matter i,s that your all important brand is not as good as you think, nor is it important.  Today, it is risky business to sit behind an office desk, reviewing great ratings in customer satisfaction, but while your brand is at its best, it could all be destroyed within minutes.  It only takes one person to have a bad experience and it could be all over. Many companies have experienced trills of having their brand catapulted into the [read] Keywords: facebook office twitter

I am not sure that we will be talking about Social Business in as little as five years
Fri, Jan 27th 2012 3:03a   Vaughan Rivett
My wife is a primary school teacher and she has been pioneering a “digital classroom”.  While a lot of this has been experimental, she has seen amazing results.  Take for example, children with learning difficulties who are able to substantially advance their potential through the use of an iPad.  Not only are the kids using the latest technologies and cloud based solutions but they are also facilitating their learning through the use of social media.  This has taken their learni [read] Keywords: facebook twitter

User Adoption Strategies – moving second wave people
Thu, Jan 26th 2012 11:03a   Vaughan Rivett
While on a flight to Christchurch today, I decided that it was high time (that’s a pun) that I read a book which I had downloaded onto my iPad some time ago. Michael Sampson’s book, User Adoption Strategies – moving second wave people, is so far an excellent read.  I have only covered the first two chapters, but what he has to say really makes good sense. So often I have seen companies put in place new technologies and say to the users “here it is, now use it”. No [read] Keywords: facebook twitter

Social business is a competitive differentiator – The dream of being a market leader now has to become reality
Thu, Jan 26th 2012 1:49a   Vaughan Rivett
On the tail end of a global financial crisis and as the world tries to avert another, the businesses which are going to flourish are those who are able to recreate themselves as their industry defines who they are to be.  It would seem that every system and process needs to be realigned to changing customer demand.  The dream of being a market leader now has to become reality. Social Business is not about technology (though it may have been driven by technology), but it is more to do with the [read] Keywords: facebook twitter
