Dream Theater Studio Update - Can you handle it?
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 10:09a John Head Mike Portnoy, drummer of Dream Theater, just posted this tidbit on the recording of their new album: Well, normally I wont share any studio info for fear of over speculation and analyzation (yes, there's another thread in the Forum with 21 pages of people talking about mine and JP's hair based on Jordan's studio diary!).... But I felt the need to share this excitement with y'all: Today I finished my drum tracks for the new Dream Theater album! And as I normally never give away son [read] Keywords: |

Every American should vote today
Tue, Nov 4th 2008 8:10a John Head No matter what your politics are, today is the day to get out an vote. Every American has the duty to vote today. Too many citizens have died to protect the freedoms every citizen has, including the right to vote. Even if you go, take your ballet, and don't punch anything ... you still have exercised your right to vote. I spent last evening researching the local races, including judges, to make sure I know every name on the ballet today. Anyone else ready for this election to be over? I am .. [read] Keywords: |

Test Documents for OOXML and ODF standards
Thu, Oct 23rd 2008 6:03p John Head At the DII Workshop on OOXML today, one of the issues that is under discussion is creating an test suite of documents that implementers can test their implementation against. My recommendation is that the OOXML (and ODF) camp create something like the ACID test. The ACID test let's browser creators test specific features and functionality and let's the user see where they stand. This is not about implementing hundreds or thousands of pages of a spec, its about meeting specific requirements. T [read] Keywords: document

Microsoft embraces Eclipse.org with Silverlight 2

So IBM thinks it is important that all the LotusScript Developers transition to Java ... where is IBM Education?
Mon, Sep 8th 2008 10:39a John Head So Bob Balaban did some blogging this weekend on the transition of LotusScript developers to Java and Nathan Freeman blogged about some nuggets around Java and the Notes UI and Front End classes. While the complete message of what is coming is not anything that those of us in the Design Partner can communicate (I just wish IBM would blog/discuss this publically). The path that will come to a head with the final release of 8.5 (that is a guess, it could be 8.5.1 or later) should not surprise anyo [read] Keywords: domino

Are you ready for some football? NFL 2008 season starts today
Thu, Sep 4th 2008 11:10a John Head So the NFL American Footballs season officially starts today. Over all other sports, football is by far my favorite. I love high school football because it is the most pure. I root for the Chicago Bears because they are my team. But fantasy football is what I love most. I am in three fantasy football leagues this year. Here is the breakdown for each. In the PSC League (I had the second pick), my team is: In the Geezer Gamer Brigade (this is John Roling's league, with myself, Declan [read] Keywords: |

Lotus Symphony 1.1 has Notes mail merge built in!
Fri, Aug 29th 2008 12:00p John Head After all of those years of asking, we finally have Notes .nsf based mail merge. This feature comes from Lotus Symphony 1.1 (which will be included in the final Notes 8.5 final release). Here is a screen grab You can select any nsf file, and I selected a database based on the Notes Personal Name & Address book (Notes Contacts in Notes 8.X). It seems that it reads the Person document specifically, but I am already in the Symphony API and looking on how to build a mapping tool for cust [read] Keywords: document

Ephox pickes PSC to implement EditLive! in Lotus Quickr for Domino
Tue, Aug 5th 2008 3:39p John Head One of the questions I get from customers and prospects is "We know PSC does quite a bit of Notes and Domino consulting, but do you do any Lotus Quickr work?" The answer is "Yes" we just do not communicate that as well. What makes it hard is most of the work we do is specific customizations for companies looking to implement Lotus Quickr into their business process - it is often hard to get permission to talk or post about that work. So I am excited to be able to reveal that Ephox, the compa [read] Keywords: domino

What is holding you back from building Notes, Sametime, and Symphony plug-ins with Eclipse & Expeditor?
Mon, Aug 4th 2008 11:10a John Head There has been some chatter out there about why we are seeing a trickle instead of a flood of plug-ins that work with Notes, Sametime, or Symphony. Besides the fact that they require knowledge of Java and Eclipse.org development, what things are holding people back? I think if we could come up with a comprehensive list of suggestions and road blocks that we could communicate with IBM this is the time. I will post my issues and wish list as another post with a consolidated list from all of you [read] Keywords: expeditor

Integra Thought of the Week - Centralizing your Business Application Reporting
Mon, Aug 4th 2008 10:20a John Head As I was demonstrating Integra to a couple of potential clients the past couple weeks, I have been seeing a greater demand for a centralized business application reporting solution. Customers want more and more reporting for their applications. What they do not want is multiple reporting applications or reporting functionality that is located all over the back office. One of the many advantages of the Integra solution is that all of your reports for the Notes and Domino platform live in a single [read] Keywords: domino

Thoughts on the Microsoft Office ODF Workshop
Fri, Aug 1st 2008 6:20p John Head This past Wednesday I attended the Microsoft Office ODF Workshop in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft called this workshop to have a public review of the work they are doing to implement the Open Document Format (ODF) 1.1 standard into Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 2. Before I go into some observations, I have to commend Microsoft on the level of technical detail and openness at this event provided.
