What's wrong with this picture - literally
Jim Casale

A recent visit to my sons school shows me how inept New York City can be.

There is a supposed to be a special entrance for the FDNY

A picture named M2

but I am wondering -  how they are supposed to get over the concrete barriers that were installed?

A picture named M3

So now you have 3 schools on a campus that is fenced in with only one (main) entrance that the FDNY can use. I guess I shouldn't tell you the road from the main entrance to the 3 schools is too narrow for firetrucks to navigate. Unbelievable.

Is Chrome really the #1 browser?
Wed, May 23rd 2012 6:11a   Jim Casale
Recent headlines proclaim chrome is the #1 browser on the World Wide Web. I have to question how accurate that statement is and how did they get to the #1 spot if true. You have to wonder how much software bundling has to play in browser stats. It's no secret there are many "free" software packages out there that bundle additional software. How many people actually uncheck this option? And there is the wonderful world of statistics and how they are generated and co [read] Keywords: google

Is Windows Update dumb or is this just the way it works?
Thu, May 3rd 2012 5:05a   Jim Casale
Even though I have install Office 2010 without Outlook 2010 it's weird that Microsoft Update wants to install updates for Outlook. I have checked and do not see the executable for Outlook so I have to wonder where Windows Update is getting the information on installed options. [read] Keywords: microsoft office outlook

Why I donate
Mon, Apr 30th 2012 4:54a   Jim Casale
If you follow me on Twitter or 4Square you have probably seen me check-in at Long Island Blood Services. For those of you wondering it's not because I am sickly. I am there for my regular platelet donation. Some of you may also be wondering why I donate, or better yet, why I donate so often (every 2 weeks - and contrary to what I joking say I will not end up looking like SpongeBob SquarePants in the SpongeBob movie - a shriveled up sponge). It all started about 10 years ago when my [read] Keywords: email twitter

Shuttle Enterprise
Tue, Apr 24th 2012 4:10p   Jim Casale
I am fortunate (or unfortunate sometimes) to live about 15 minutes from JFK airport. Depending on the weather conditions the landing flight path gives me a good view of approaching aircraft. Although delayed until Friday I wonder if I will be able to get a birds eye view of the shuttle on its approach to JFK. The shuttle will be stored at JFK and won't be at the Intrepid Air Space Museum for months. I doubt I will go to see it for a while because of its popularity View of flights a [read] Keywords: enterprise

To Flash or not to Flash
Mon, Sep 26th 2011 5:41a   Jim Casale
What's the point of promoting a "HTML5" site when the site depends on Flash? Cnet News says "Today, Pandora unveiled a dramatically overhauled site design. Beyond a welcome new look, the code behind the site now uses HTML5 in favor of Adobe Flash. In its own press release, Pandora credits the switch to HTML5 for opening up creative new cross-platform advertising opportunities and allowing for a more flexible overall site design." After not being able to run the new P [read] Keywords: firefox vm

The saddest and happiest day of our lives
Sun, Sep 11th 2011 6:13a   Jim Casale
It was 10 years ago today America was attacked by terrorists. Both my wife and I knew people who died at the WTC and know NYC fireman and police officers who worked at ground zero. It was 28 years ago today I made the best decision in my life and married my wife (although some days I bet she might wonder about her decision) For the last 10 years we have unofficially celebrated our anniversary on 9/10 although we have never really talked about it. It's just something we did. [read] Keywords:
