Well fancy that - there's an "Export to Microsoft Excel" option on the right click menu of a web page displayed in the Notes Client.

I've been writing some XPages to display some reports, but the user wanted the option to export the raw data to a spreadsheet. So thinking that the user was running the application in a browser, thus writing a file to their machine might be problematic, I simply wrote an Agent that took the contents of a View and printed HTML out to the browser. Yes, I know I could have let Notes do the hard work, but I had some code and I wanted to use it.

Anyway, when the user tested it they reported that they kept getting just the text of the Login Screen in Excel. Odd I thought - how can you get a login screen when all they're doing is copying and pasting the HTML output into Excel? It wasn't until I saw the screen-grab that they sent me that I realised that their Notes Client was set up to display web pages within the Notes Client. And low and behold there's a "Export to Microsoft Excel" option when you right click on the table...

To solve the user's problem of the text of the Login Screen appearing in Excel, all you do is click on Data, Import External Data, Edit query where you'll see a proper login screen and the user can enter their details and click the "Sign In" button. The data will appear and when Import is clicked the data is inserted into the worksheet. Magic!

Web access to database only getting Read Public Docs. Thu, Jun 30th 2011 6:12a Jerry Shelley It took me a while to figure out why when I was logging into a normal database that I got no access at all. I knocked up a $$ViewTemplateDefault Form, made it "Available to Public Access users", and put some Computed Texts on to show @Username, @UserRoles and @UserAccess( @DbName ). The 1st two were as expected but UserAccess returned "0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0" ie No Access! XPages Extension Library - ValidationTextBox required attribute Thu, May 26th 2011 8:10a Jerry Shelley I'm having great fun and success with the XPages Extension Library. Can't wait for it to be included in the core product so that we don't have to install it on the servers. Anyway, I was having a problem with a Dojo ValidationTextBox not stopping the submission of the form if it was failing validation.
