Lotus Notes and HTML E-Mail
Gregg Eldred

A few times this week, I have posted a link on developerWorks:Lotus to answer some question concerning the creation and sending of HTML e-mail in Notes/Domino. The site that I keep using as a reference is Jake Howlett's Codestore.net. In fact, back in April 2007, he updated his series of articles to use new methods introduced in R6:

Domino 6 introduced a new method to the NotesMIMEEntity class called setContentFromText(). This allows us to add MIME entities to a message and add our own text content to it. Not only this but we can dictate the headers and content types of the message. This gives us the ability to send emails in multiple formats.

As a bonus, he provides code that will render the e-mail in either HTML OR plain text, depending on the recipient's client settings. Even I can see that this is really cool. :-)

If you need to create and send HTML mail using Lotus Notes, look no further than Jake's post. It is "The Final Word" on Notes and HTML mail.

Number One Son: Marine

Some people wonder all their lives if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem. Ronald Reagan, President of the United States; 1985 Number One Son is now a United States Marine. After 13 weeks of only communicating with him via letters, on March 4 we finally saw and spent time with Number One Son. March 4 was Parent's Day at Parris Island. University of Dayton: Moving Students from Lotus Notes to Gmail?
Mon, Mar 1st 2010 11:31p   Gregg Eldred
I'm not sure why, but I am enjoying the discussion that is occurring at the University of Dayton concerning e-mail. Currently, all students and staff are on the university's Domino servers. But that will probably be changing. I've talked about UD twice, once about the students forwarding their Notes mail to more familiar messaging systems and then about a paragraph in a Letter to the Editor. Now, the student newspaper, Flyer News, is reporting that the university is evaluating a move from Domino [read] Keywords: domino ibm lotus notes google integration planetlotus planetlotus.org

Big Bang Theory: Vanity Cards
Mon, Mar 1st 2010 10:20p   Gregg Eldred
Silly me. I have been DVR'ing/taping/recording (whatever you want to call it these days) Big Bang Theory primarily so that I can stop the recording to be able to read the vanity cards that close every episode. Little did I know that they were available on the internets. For example, here is the one that appeared after this evenings episode: I worked for Stan Lee twenty-five years ago at Marvel Animation in Los Angeles. My favorite memory is sitting in his office with the legendary Johnny Carso [read] Keywords: office wiki
