Update on Notes/Domino 8.5
Mon, Dec 1st 2008 9:52a Ed Brill It's December 1, so there is obviously a lot of ongoing interest in the status of Notes/Domino 8.5. As I said in my last post, I've recently started using Notes 8.5 as my daily client, and am really happy with some of the incremental improvements (iCalendar stuff is a wow, and I'll write more about that later this week...and the little things, like being able to drag-and-drop text within a rich text field). Domino 8.5 is in production on many servers in our early deployment labs, and we're see [read] Keywords: domino

What my inbox heard on its Thanksgiving vacation
Sun, Nov 30th 2008 9:59p Ed Brill Interesting stuff has passed through my inbox over the last several days, including... News of one of the largest deals the Lotus brand has ever done in Australia, a multi-year effort with an organization I've enjoyed meeting each of my last several visits "down under". News of a European customer that at one point had decided to standardize on Microsoft... after further review and detailed analysis, not only decided to keep their Notes investment, but are bringing in the other Lotus solution [read] Keywords: administration

New Zealand Herald: IT sellers talk up social links
Thu, Nov 27th 2008 11:04a Ed Brill Great to see some mainstream media coverage resulting from my stop in New Zealand last week...Businesses have a lot to gain by embracing the concepts behind the hugely popular social networking internet sites people flock to in their private lives, says Ed Brill, a US-based IBM director who specialises in messaging and collaboration software. 30 days with the Blackberry Bold
Wed, Nov 26th 2008 3:51p Ed Brill My first month with the Bold is approaching, and I thought it a good time to reflect on whether I still feel the same about this new device. In short, it just keeps getting better. The Bold continues to inspire device-lust, which surprised me -- a whole cluster of people checking it out on a flight to LAX, sideways glances when I'm using it at dinner. I did not realize style-wise that it was distinct enough from earlier Blackberries to get noticed in that way, but I think it's such a cl [read] Keywords: lotus

Wed, Nov 26th 2008 9:39a Ed Brill Vlad Tatarincevs asked an interesting question the other day:Would it be nice if people who BLOG can participate in Lotusphere for free? IBM could do this step . Intranet Journal: IBM Offers Office Productivity for a Song
Mon, Nov 24th 2008 10:39p Ed Brill Hat tip to Mr. Roling for an excellent review of Symphony in the pages of Intranet Journal...With the release of IBM Lotus Notes 8, IBM took a shot at Microsoft with integrated Word Processor, Spreadsheet and Presentation software. Now, that package of software, known as IBM Lotus Symphony, is available as a stand-alone suite that's available for anyone to download for free. Yes you read that right, free. David Allen speaking with Eric Mack at Lotusphere 2009
Mon, Nov 24th 2008 2:46p Ed Brill One of the best parts of Lotusphere each year is a little bit of "Lotusphere magic". There's always a new type of session, format, event, or speaker as part of the event. While, as Sandra Marcus says, we love all of our speakers equally, for 2009, I am excited to be a part of putting together a very special best practices session at Lotusphere. The separate download process for Lotus Notes Traveler goes away soon
Sun, Nov 23rd 2008 11:09p Ed Brill Following on from last week's announcement around Lotus Notes Traveler and Nokia support... When we introduced Lotus Notes Traveler back in Q1 2008, there were, well, some startup problems with being able to obtain the code. Unlike typical Notes/Domino product components, you couldn't simply download Notes Traveler from Passport Advantage or Partnerworld. Instead a registration process was put in place for IBM's tracking purposes. I acknowledged at the time that it was sub-optimal, but it [read] Keywords: domino

30 days in...a progress report
Thu, Nov 6th 2008 9:35p Ed Brill One of the great things about moving from Notes/Domino sales to Notes/Symphony product management is that there was no real "break in" period. In my new job, I work with most of the same people I worked with in my old job, albeit from the different perspective of product management and being a people manager.
