Feeling stupid with Firefox 3....

Just suddenly my Firefox 3 installation just started to behave weirdly: it could not save any password inside the built-in Password Manager... Moreover, my Gmail Manager could not save my accounts data.

I tried many things trying to solve that issue:

  • checking my FF3 options to be sure it would ask for password saving
  • disabling/uninstalling some specific add-ons
  • uninstalling ALL add-ons
  • uninstall Adware and Spybot Search&Destroy software
  • rebooting my pc (at least three times!)
  • creating a new user profile for FF3
  • reading forums about the subject: other people have the very same problem, but no solutions worked for me...
  • uninstalling FF3 and re-installing it again from scratch
  • ...

After more than one hour of testing, I decided to give up:

  • I uninstalled FF3 :-(
  • installed FF2 latest release
  • installed back all my beloved add-ons:
Firebug, del.ico.us toolbar, Gmail Manager, FireGestures, Sxipper

With FF2 now I really feel home browsing the web and working: I will "play" with FF3  during the week-end ;-)

How does Quickr document versioning work?
Fri, Nov 28th 2008 7:52p   Cristian D'Aloisio
I seldom used versioning for documents saved in my old "beloved" Quickplace. With Quickr 8.1 I tried to use document versioning but I was a little bit worried because I could not find any menu action to do that (I was trying to version a Quickr Page). Not evenany Quickr server setting or Place setting :-( After some search I find out the following IBM technote that explains the whole subject in Quickr 8.x: Document Versioning in Lotus Quickr 8.1 services for Domino P.S. What a mess at Babylon Ltd !
Fri, Nov 28th 2008 7:52p   Cristian D'Aloisio
Some years ago I bought Babylon, the translator utility for my Windows laptop. I WAS a happy user, until recently I just started to see pop-up messages telling me that I cannot use Babylon in more than one computer: I only use it on my Toshiba computer! Ok, s*t happens, but the problem is with the Babylon Help Desk: I took me a lot of time to temporarily fix the problem. Many mail messages back and forth between me and the Help Desk. Testing Lotus Traveler inside a Windows Mobile emulator
Sat, Nov 22nd 2008 7:55p   Cristian D'Aloisio
Everybody is waiting to download Lotus Traveler compatible with Symbian phone. I read some docs about Lotus Traveler but never had the chance to test it: I use one Blackberry device but have no other device compatible with Windows Mobile :-( But I googled the web and found out that's available a Windows Mobile emulator/simulator used by programmers. Pushing (too much) my Blackberry BES server?
Tue, Nov 11th 2008 3:53a   Cristian D'Aloisio
Some months ago, reading some Blackberry docs, I found out that a Blackberry BES server can send messages (push) to specific BES users, I mean people with Blackberry devices managed by the BES server. What kind of messages? You can send a URL address that will show on the users BB device with a custom read/unread icon: you can see the message inside the Inbox OR on the BB device desktop (it depends on the push message type). When the user clicks on the icon, the browser will load the "pushed" [read] Keywords: lotus notes notes client application applications bes blackberry desktop java server

You made a local replica of a Notes database (application) but forgot to disable encryption? Today I've had a bad user experience using Quickr Connector via the Windows (file) Explorer (latest version, compatible with Notes 8.0.2) and I'm starting "loosing my faith" about the Quickr Connector reliability... Ubuntu 8.04 power management
Wed, Aug 13th 2008 6:49p   Cristian D'Aloisio

HttpSession: http session variables in LotusScript
Thu, Aug 7th 2008 6:31p   Cristian D'Aloisio
I'm developing HttpSession, a class hosted by a LS library, to manage HTTP sessions variables shared among many LS web agents calls.   Right now the library is in alpha stage, I'm continuing testing it... ;)   Http session variables are commonly used in Java servlets. I decided to mimic somehow the HttpSession interface as defined in Java.   In small words, just using HttpSession during web development, when a web user invokes LS agentA and LS agentB, the programmer can save, "o [read] Keywords: lotusscript notes development interface java server

Any library to manage HttpSession data storing and retrieval in LotusScript web agents ?
Fri, Aug 1st 2008 6:29a   Cristian D'Aloisio
In programming I don't like to "reinvent the wheel", I like to use reliable code written by (smart) people who already had to face common needs. That's why I use libraries like OpenLog, WebSession, libraries to compute MD5 hashes, etc. I wonder if someone has already written a LotusScript Library to manage HTTP Session, like HttpSession interface in Java servlets: when programming LotusScript web agents, it would be useful to use a LS library to manage session data, using methods like setAttrib [read] Keywords: lotusscript interface java

Do you need to access LDAP via LotusScript? 1/2

Recently I had to deal with a LDAP server using old beloved LotusScript language. After some search I found the following free LotusScript extension (LSX) that is really useful for my needs: LotusScript Directory Service for Windows From the IBM Sandbox: LotusScript Directory Service is a small LotusScript Extension utility which is developed for testing LDAP protocol in Domino 5.0. Feeling stupid with Firefox 3....
Tue, Jul 22nd 2008 3:51p   Cristian D'Aloisio
Just suddenly my Firefox 3 installation just started to behave weirdly: it could not save any password inside the built-in Password Manager... Moreover, my Gmail Manager could not save my accounts data. I tried many things trying to solve that issue: checking my FF3 options to be sure it would ask for password saving disabling/uninstalling some specific add-ons uninstalling ALL add-ons uninstall Adware and Spybot Search&Destroy software rebooting my pc (at least three times!) creating a new [read] Keywords: firefox password profile

Being a R8.0.2 beta 1 tester
Sun, Jul 13th 2008 4:04p   Cristian D'Aloisio
While many people are evaluating the brand new shining R8.5 beta, I'm working on R8.0.2 beta 1: right, I'm a R8.0.2 beta 1 tester. My first impression is good, I like it, especially the login window just appearing so quickly: perception matters! Until now, my main concern was about my mouse pointer: no arrow icon, just a white box. I took a look inside the beta forum and I found out the problem was about color depth of my video: I changed my settings from 16 bits to 32 bits, and all is ok. R [read] Keywords: R8

Save your server disk space, use DAOS in R 8.5
Tue, Jul 1st 2008 4:48p   Cristian D'Aloisio
Andrea wrote a post about a new feature, DAOS, that will be available with Domino 8.5 . The new developed technology will be/must be an improved SCOS (single copy object store), also known as Shared Mail, available in R8 and previous Domino release.
