Cool controls for Lotus Notes - Part 2

John Foldager took the time to look at the controls I posted about back in September and has some great input: I have looked at some of the controls and they seem to require some "clean up" in the code as well as their behaviour. An example is the GanttChart component which has some methods that are misspelled (minor refactor would fix this) and the scrollbars doesn't work perfectly according to your scrolling in the view. Mac, XBox and USB 2 Drives

I found this kind of funny. I wanted to use a new terabyte drive I bought and connect it to my XBox. This would allow me to have all of my family pictures, videos, and music connected directly to the xbox - which is great for parties. Here is the problem. The XBox only recognizes FAT32 drives. The drive came as NTFS formatted. Windows 2000 and Windows XP can not format drives as FAT32 - nice huh! So I connected the drive up to my friends Mac laptop and viola... it formatted the drive to FAT32. [read] Keywords: laptop

Property Value Editor

The Composite Application Editor team was very busy in the Notes 8.5 release. One of the highly requested features made it into the tooling. This new feature is the Property Value Editor. The dialog can be accessed from the Composite Application Editor menu under Edit | Property Value Editor. The dialog is very powerful. Stealing images!

One of my directories did not have the appropriate entries in the .htaccess file to prevent people from stealing my images. What I mean by steal is, they are actually stealing my bandwidth by referring to an image from my site on their site. So what I get are more bytes transferred and a lot more referrers. Just as Alan showed how you can use the "New" toolbar to have any document added to that drop down you can also use it for any bookmark. For instance, I have my blog entry in that list so I can do a single click to add an entry to my blog - which is strictly web based. IBM can! Pretty much everyone has stopped using Office and has moved to Symphony. There are still rare cases but for the most part I only get Symphony files in my email now. A hole-in-one!

Ok, let me preface by stating this Excel container did not ship in the Notes 8.5 beta. If you seriously want it in the end product please let me know because I think it is slated as a web delivery for the moment. This is a very basic demo and it still uses the POC landmark editing UI, however I think you will get the point in the end. Writing Eclipse plugins for Notes 8.5 and XPD 6.2

As Mikkel has already experienced, you need to using Eclipse 3.4 when developing java plugins for Notes 8.5 or XPD 6.2. We skipped over Eclipse 3.3 for various reasons. Another small change is the remote debug options. I often write code, deploy it to the runtime through an update site (once) then copy the plugins over from then on. Ok, if you have not seen the movie go see it. It was great! It had the usual non-believable super hero stuff but your kids and the kid in you will love the movie. Adding custom launch items to the "Open" menu

Lotus Notes has a very cool UI where you can contribute launcher items to the Open menu. You can not only contribute bookmarks and databases but you can create a custom handler to have just about anything launch from the Open menu. You can check out the Info Center help here where it shows you how to add a contribution to the menu. I have been asked a few times how we create perspectives dynamically in Lotus Expeditor and Notes in the composite application space. We actually create many extensions dynamically using the Eclipse RegistryFactory API. Ok, my kids loved lincoln logs and Legos - and actually still use them a lot - mostly legos. Now, my kids (even my five year old), only want to create maps in Halo 3. New export function in RAD 7.5 rocks

Ok, I am not sure if this came from Eclipse 3.4 or this is something Rational added but I absolutely love it! Now, I don't have to change all of the manifests to provide patches or export my plugins to a configured runtime. This is going to save so much time and get rid of a big headache. What the feature does is automatically replace ".qualifier" with what you specify in the field to the right. I matched it to my Notes 8.5 install for the property broker plugin. Very cool. Horton, Cavemen, and John Adams

It kind of felt like an all movie weekend! We saw Horton Hears a Who on Saturday - I really liked it, the kids loved it. Then I saw 10,000 BC with my son Sunday night - he really liked it, I thought it was ok. It was a lot different from what I thought it was going to be like.
