Last Wed, some friends from Lotus and I gathered to "celebrate my latest adventure". (my code for leaving IBM) It was a wonderful evening, filled with memories and great conversations. To ensure that I never forget Lotus, the gang presented me with a giant box of Lotus schwag which contained clothing, a killer letter opener, stress balls, puzzles, coffee warmers, mouse pads, a gorgeous Disney wine bottle stopper, and a dozen other items. I think every part of my life can now have a Lotus logo on it!
I was also presented with a certificate of membership into G.O.N.A.D. Thank you very much Steve, and everyone else who made that possible.

I know several people were taking pictures, so if you could please share those with me, I'd appreciate it. A lot of people who were there are not in the shots I have, so hopefully you captured them.
So thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who worked to put this together. Especially Mary Beth Raven and Erica Topolski for starting this, everyone that donated to the giant yellow box, and those that traveled into Cambridge on a rainy night to make the event. I know a lot of people could not attend, but thank you for all the emails, ims, and tweets.
Don't worry, this is not the end, just a new beginning. The Notes tips will still be coming, and hopefully the track managers for Lotusphere 2009 will accept my "Lotus Notes 8.x Tips and Tricks" presentation!

Yesterday on Twitter/Facebook, I asked people what their one favourite Firefox add-on extension was. I know that is tough, as most people have a long list. What surprised me was the diversity of the answers, and how little overlap there was. My single choice would be Tab Mix Plus. Linking an email and event in Apple OSX

In my last post, I showed how easy it is to link an email and calendar event in Lotus Notes using document links. You can do something similar with Apple's mail and calendar application, but I find the feature less mature than it is in Notes. Link a document to a calendar entry

I've always felt that one of the most power things about Lotus Notes was document links. Rather than duplicating data in multiple places, you can keep the data in one place, and then link to it from multiple other places. (email, calendars, Teamrooms, Document Library, custom applications, etc) There is a Notes feature called "Copy Into" that copies the body of an email message into a calendar entry, but at times there is no need to duplicate the data. If you find yourself repeating the same search over and over again, Notes makes it easy for you to save the criteria, so you don't have to type it in each time. When searching for documents in Notes database, you can control the way the results are displayed, by changing the value in the "Sort Results By" drop down list. If you choose "relevance" documents are displayed based on how closely they match what you are looking for. The bar along the left side is darkest at the top and fades as it gets lower, visually indicating how relevant the documents are. This is similar to Google search. Set my desk phone free!

I have a new Polycom IP telephone. It has an input jack for a headset, but I was wondering if you know about a way to add a wireless headset, so I can walk around my house instead of being tethered to my desk. I'm thinking there must be some wireless or bluetooth type thing that plugs into the headset jack, and then communicates to the headset. Here is a really cool tip when using Apple OSX: Dropping Text on the Dock for Fast Results. "Lets say you're reading an article on-line, and you read a sentence that you want to email to a friend. Don't do the copy-and-paste thing. Instead, just highlight the text and drag-and-drop it right on the Mail icon in the Dock. It will open Mail and put that sentence into a new mail message." What do you use to manage your photos on Mac?

So after hours of reading about this on the web, I figured I'd turn to my friends. I am hoping there is a simple program out there for viewing and organizing photos. (editing is a different story) I used Acdsee in Windows, and loved it. Yes, iPhoto is nice, but just like everyone else I've spoken to, I don't like that simply rotating a photo when viewing creates a modified version doubling the photo's disc space.
