Marketing 101: Don’t make fun of your target market
Mon, Nov 17th 2008 9:52a Adam Gartenberg It appears there's been a little brouhaha this weekend over a particularly misguided ad for Motrin that the folks at J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit put out there. Since they seem to have already realized the error of their ways and have pulled the ad (and I do have to commend them for responding so quickly), I'm not going to go after them for the content of the ad. Rather, I'm going to take this as a good opportunity to remind us all that when creating a marketing campaign, it' [read] Keywords: twitter

Lotusphere session not accepted? How about an Un-Lotusphere?
Fri, Nov 14th 2008 9:56a Adam Gartenberg Here's a random idea of the day: My team and I have been working on some brainstorming around how to increase awareness and support for DB2 and Informix and the rest of our data management products. One of the ideas put forth by a colleague was "Find a way to leverage all of the good presentations rejected for IOD." We all agreed this was an excellent idea and worth following up on, but more than that, seeing all of the acceptance (and regrettably some rejection) posts flying around Pla [read] Keywords: lotus

Join the "DB2 for z/OS Terabyte Club" and show your pride!
Thu, Nov 13th 2008 9:52a Adam Gartenberg Willie Favero and Gary Crupi are starting a new club, and while I can't join, many of you probably can! Tell everyone how you can control your cost, stay ecologically sound (think GREEN), and how you are "Best of Breed" at what you do. Show them your stripes, your green stripe that is. And it's so amazingly easy; you'll wonder why we hadn't thought of the idea years ago. The membership rules for the "DB2 for z/OS Terabyte Club" are pretty simple, and the name says it all. Big C... Little C... What begins with C?
Mon, Nov 10th 2008 12:53p Adam Gartenberg It's great to see people continuing to talk about the Data Champion program that we announced the other week at IOD. Robert Catterall, one of the inaugural Data Champions has a great post about the program and what its implications are for the community, and he makes an important distinction between what he calls "Big C" Champions and "little c" champions: IBM, through this new program, has made us "Big C" (i.e., "official") Champions, but what we have in common - and I suppose that this is [read] Keywords: ibm

Fri, Oct 3rd 2008 11:52a Adam Gartenberg While underway in some countries already, this week saw the North American kickoff of the XML Challenge and the launch of the official worldwide website. Today is the Online Community Action Day!
Wed, Oct 1st 2008 3:52a Adam Gartenberg Today is the Online Community Action Day! Have you participated yet? Today is the day to go online and show the strength and power of your community. All you need to do to participate is take 5 minutes from your day - just 5 minutes - to head over to your favorite blog, listserv, or forum, and leave a comment, post an answer, or share a tip. Heck - I'm guessing that at some point during the day you'll be visiting those sites anyway; all I'm asking is that instead of moving on to [read] Keywords: ibm

Help show the strength of your community by giving a little back (and it doesn't take anything more than a little tapping on the keyboard). I wanted to say a quick thank you to some of the folks that are helping to spread the word about the Community Action Day. Mon, Sep 29th 2008 11:52a Adam Gartenberg If you're looking for more information on the Information Agenda, or if this is still a new concept for you, I highly recommend joining the webcast that General Manager Ambuj Goyal will be holding tomorrow (Sept. 30) at 2:00 PM ET. I've always found that I get far more listening to him talk about it than I get reading through whitepapers or websites or presentations.
