Couple of new articles covering Lotus iNotes on the iPhone
...which, as part of Domino 8.0.2, is on track to ship later this month.Computerworld Australia, "Lotus iNotes coming to the iPhone 3G":
IBM's Lotus Domino Web Access software, also known as IBM Lotus iNotes, will bring your Lotus e-mail, calendar and contact details to the Apple iPhone 3G. ...AppleInsider, "IBM expands Lotus Notes Mac support to iPhone (screenshots)":
The Web page touting Lotus functionality on the iPhone states that Lotus Notes data "will combine with the flexibility and connectivity of the Apple iPhone. To be built on the time tested IBM Lotus Domino Web Access infrastructure, users will be able to quickly access e-mail, calendars, and contacts through the rich Apple iPhone user experience".
IBM has unveiled a sneak peek of its new Lotus iNotes, a web app client for its Lotus Domino messaging server to bring email, calendar, and contacts to iPhone. The move fulfills rumors of customized iPhone support for Lotus Notes and demonstrates IBM's evolving interest in Apple within the enterprise. ...a pilot which one of my staff will be joining in the next few weeks... The AppleInsider article takes a weird detour through Lotus history from 20 years ago, but it's good to get coverage of this in the Apple-focused press. The comments thread even settles down after a bit.
An initial study at IBM Research, which started in October of 2007, found that 86% of those participating wanted to keep their MacBook Pro laptops over returning back to IBM ThinkPads running Windows. "It has been easier learning the Mac than learning Vista," one participant reported. IBM has since expanded its Mac pilot program.
Check 'em both out, and while the beta program is shutting down, you can see iNotes Ultralite in action today on the Lotus Greenhouse.

It was amusing to read how in a MAC world, Lotus decisions not to fix or provide a MAC suite doomed Lotus to failure.
Funny, having lived through that era I don't recall MAC making up more than a few percentage points of desktops.
Just goes to show that history really never has a definitive angle.

Hi Ed,
You know the thing about acronyms and spell checkers... well I know as a kid that "BM" rarely stood for Business Machine. I think you are missing the "I" in your blog. Kinda funny though. In any case, thanks for the update.

@2 oops, I had fixed it but not replicated back to the server...fixed now

@1 - Yes, Apple's original failures were all the fault of Lotus and vice versa. :)
The "history lesson" makes no mention of Lotus Notes at all; as if IBM paid $3.3 Billion for SmartSuite. Speaking of which, can someone please explain why SmartSuite is still an active product?
With Symphony now released one would think IBM would develop a "SmartSuite Strategy" to migrate people to Symphony; much like IBM tried to do with getting OS/2 shops to embrace Linux.

Looking for iNotes Ultralite on greenhouse, but can't find it. Can you help point me in the right direction?

@5 Go to 'My Links' and open DWA Web Mail. When it opens you have a drop down that allows you to select which version to use.

Great to see some decent screen shots - it looks very pretty too!

Still can't find Ultralite.
When I go to the DWA Web Mail, I only have the options for 'full mode' or 'lite mode'; no 'ulrtalite'. from the PC or the iPhone.
In addition, I would expect DWA to recognize the browser as iPhone and simply switch to ultralite for me???
I would REALLY like to play with this to see if our iPhone users will be happy with this access to Notes Mail when 8.0.2 is live or whether I should be looking to an IMAP solution and an SSL cert for that port.

Chris, I'm guessing here, but perhaps not all greenhouse users have the same mail file template. I think there are also some minor positioning problems, the drop down I mentioned is hidden below the link to the about page.
Remove the blanks, change to your mail file name and try this:
https : // greenhouse.lotus.com/mail/YOURMAILFILE.nsf/iNotes/Mail/?OpenDocument&Form=m_HomeView

@8 Til an explicit link to Ultralite mode can be placed in the greenhouse links area, I've been suggesting that folks select dwa_lite and then go edit the url to add the letter "u"...changing ...?OpenDatabase&ui=dwa_lite to ...?OpenDatabase&ui=dwa_ulite
Also, doing a ?OpenDatabase with no &ui argument to force a particular mode (full:inotes, lite:dwa_lite, ultralite:dwa_ulite) will indeed result in getting ultralite from Safari browser on iPhone or iPod Touch

So, as a Palm Treo 700p user, will I be able to use ultralite on my phone, or am I still left out in the cold?
