Anyone out there using TSM for Domino mail servers running on Windows?

We're being told by TSM Support that we cannot use Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) to remotely access our servers to perform backups and restores. The symptom is that during the backup, it would not backup what are considered to be the normal Domino database files while a server is up and running (log.nsf, names.nsf, etc.). The log indicates the error 'database is currently being used by someone else'.

I find this really hard to believe... Does anyone have any thoughts? Is anyone else out there using TSM on Domino mail servers and accessing their machines remotely?

1 - I use RDP for everyting usually but don't have it running during backups(they run at night). IBM of course does not advocate using RDP or anythign else to perform server work. Like I can touch my server in a data center 2,000 miles away? If you use a proper lotus backup solution it should be fine. Are you trying to use regular basic windows backup software?

2 - Are you accessing the server with the /admin or /console switch? If so it shouldn't make a difference. I connect with one of those switches and use TDP with no error.

3 - If you use the /admin or /console switch it should work. I do that all the time and never have any issues using TDP with Remote Desktop.

4 - We had that issue, or at least our corporate counterparts did. I'm trying to remember the fix, but drawing a blank. If nobody solves it (and Jim may already have) by tomorrow, I can ping our corporate admin group and find out how we resolved it...

5 - We use TSM to back up both of our Notes servers - one on Windows the other on A
IX. We also back up all our file servers thru TSM.

I've never used RDP to run the backup - we also have our backups scheduled for after hours.... but I have used both RDP and VNC to remotely access the client for restore operations. You should also be able to start the TSM web console on the server and use a browser to access the system... which is how we usually handle the AIX servers.
