Bruce, that still works. I have a customer who has 4 email domains, and the location switch works just fine. Tim needs to give more info for us to help fix it

@John - Tim will soon be joining the discussion.

Here are some details:
if we setup a workstation with 2 location documents, with 2 different internet addresses, it works fine at first, then after re-logging, both addresses are replaced with whatever address is in the internet address field in the public address book.
Is there an option I can turn off to stop this? I'm struggling to even figure out what process is ordering this update.

Can I suggest you try using a different home server? It seems to work fine for me

@Paul,
A different home server for each location?

The internet address in the Location Document is probably being updated by dynamic configuration i.e. being pushed down from the server to the client (I have noticed this is much more efficient and reliable in Notes 8). One option is to turn off the dynamic update process by editing the Location Document, on the client, and chosing Actions -> Advanced -> Set update flag.

My guess is that you have an Internet Address set in the person doc. The current location's internet address will *always* be updated by dyncfg to the value in the InternetAddress from the person doc. If that wasn't happening before, it was a version bug or a dynamic configuration (dyncfg) issue at your end.
For setting the outbound address, I think you have two options:
Option 1.
As a client, you can stop the update from happening by "brute force" by setting the location doc's "acceptupdates" field. Edit the location doc and go Actions > Advanced > Set Update flag. Sadly, this will block all updates of any field to that location doc.
In retaliation to that
, an admin can set a Desktop policy with the setting Basics > Location Options > Do not allow private location documents. This would render your settings void because they'll be updated again from the person doc.
Option 2.
Another option is to remove the InternetAddress value in the Person doc. This will stop it from being pushed to the client during dyncfg. Then the behaviour for setting the sender address in outbound email is as follows:
1. If the user's current location has an internet address, this is used.
2. If the user's current location has no internet address and there is also none in the person doc, then the global domain doc describes how the outbound address is constructed on the fly.
I would probably go with Option 2 where you set a blank person doc internet address and set your chosen internet address at the location doc level. Hope this helps.

Turn off the policy doc for this user or group of users.
I do this continuously but really only bounce off of 2 dominos ervers but never have an issue, each location doc is hard wired for connections and id only in use for the location.
You can also use a web config doc to make multiple domains and specify who can send to it.

Thanks guys!, I believe the acceptupdates flag is the way to go for me.
Unfortunately leaving it blank actually replaces the address with a blank, and since we configure their locations with scripts anyhow, it's fine if those updates are turned off.
Only now that script will also include acceptupdates=0 if they have 2 locations setup.
Thanks again!
I think we're ready now.

Hi Bruce,
to continue the discussion, I have some customer with more then one email address with different domain for outgoing mail.
To switch the location, in many cases, is not accepted, and so I developed an implementation directly in the mail template to permit users to choose the address. About policy and security, we have implemented the possibility that only domino administrator can manage the address. This solution works fine over 200 users.
bye
