Stopping users saving Quickr passwords

Those pesky users... You know, the ones that want to just make life easy for themselves, rather than treating security policies with the reverence they deserve ;-)  Well, those users (and I'm one of them) have probably already ticked the Quickr Connector checkbox marked "Remember this password", rather than typing their Quickr password in each time they restart their machine.  Well, of course, this could be a security risk and many organisations have policies that restrict a user's ability to save passwords elsewhere, such as in their browser applications.

So how do you restrict this option with Quickr.  This technote tells all:

With Lotus Quickr 8.1, you can accomplish this by adding a registry key to the client. For more information, refer to the Information Center topic "Managing connector policies."

Steps to disable "Remember this password" option:

1. Open the Windows registry.

2. Navigate to the following key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Lotus Quickr\Desktop Integration

3. Add a new key for Servers

4. Add the following String value key within Servers:

      Password Save Policy
      value = 1

Once this setting is in place, when a user views the Lotus Quickr connectors dialog, then the "Remember this password" option will be disabled (dimmed or grayed out, and cannot be selected).
